Newcomer Ballet

Newcomer to Ballet — Welcome to Your First Ballet Class
At Soft Pointe Ballet and Barre, we’re passionate about making ballet accessible to every adult who dreams of dancing, no experience required. This class is your warm first step into the world of ballet. It’s designed especially for adults who have never taken ballet before, or who feel nervous about starting. You’ll learn the basics in a relaxed, patient, and non-judgmental space.
What to expect:
• Friendly, encouraging teaching
• Simple introductions to basic ballet positions and movement
• Gentle barre and centre work at a comfortable pace
• Plenty of repetition and explanation
• A focus on confidence, awareness, and discovering joy in movement
What to wear: Comfortable clothes you can move in like leggings, yoga pants, or shorts, as well as and socks or ballet shoes. Nothing fancy is needed for your first class.
By the end of this level, you’ll feel grounded in the ballet basics and ready to explore more structured technique, leading naturally into Ballet Beginner. Timeline for this level is approximately six months to one year.

Beginner Ballet

Ballet Beginner — Strengthen Your Foundation
Once you’ve discovered the basics and feel confident moving around the barre, Ballet Beginner helps you grow your technique and build strength and coordination. This class suits both adult beginners and those returning to dance after some time away.
Here you’ll work on:
• Consistency in positions and steps
• Improved balance and alignment
• Learning longer movement phrases
• Coordinating arms and legs with clarity
• Moving with increasing confidence
This class helps bridge the fundamentals and more detailed technique work to follow in Ballet Level 1. This level can take one to two years depending on your progress.

Ballet Level 1 — Technique, Flow & Confidence
Level 1 is for students who feel ready to deepen their technical understanding and expand their movement vocabulary. At this stage, you’ll bring more energy and refinement to your barre and centre work.
You’ll focus on:
• Control and precision in basic steps
• Turnout, balance, and core stability
• Introduction to turns and small jumps (petite allegro)
• Linking movements smoothly with musicality
At the end of Level 1, you’ll notice greater ease and confidence across combinations and be well-prepared for Ballet Level 2. This level will take one to two years to master.
